Activision has finally confirmed a global launch date for Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile. It drops on March 21.
The new mobile edition of Activision’s blockbuster Call of Duty series allows players to sync and log progression across the console and PC editions of COD: Modern Warfare III and Call of Duty: Warzone.
It’ll also host up to 120 players in battle royales set in familiar Call of Duty maps like Verdansk, Rebirth Island, Shipment, Shoot House and Scrapyard.
Warzone Mobile has been in soft launch since December 2022. That first beta was on Android only in Australia, but since then the soft launch has expanded to include Philippines, Brazil, some Nordic and LatAm markets and most recently Germany.
The new battle royale shooter will now live alongside Call of Duty: Mobile, which passed $3bn in lifetime revenue in July 2023, according to Activision financials.
Warzone Mobile will be the first major mobile game to be released by Activision since it was acquired by Microsoft for $69bn. Xbox boss Phil Spencer has said publicly several times that Microsoft is talking to partners about launching a ‘gamer-first’ app store of its own, though it may still be some way off.
“There’s a lot of excitement there for alternative storefronts on mobile devices that can offer better economics and are more, let’s say, gamer first because it’s going to be an Xbox store that we would go put there,” Spencer said recently.
“We’re able to drive engagement to that store because we’re now one of the biggest mobile publishers with Candy Crush, Call of Duty Mobile, Diablo Immortal, and Minecraft. So we can actually use those games to help drive engagement to our store, which can benefit third parties as well.”
