Once converted, web store buyers tend to stick around, according to a new report from mobile gaming DTC platform Appcharge.

Having analysed over $500m in transactions made by hundreds of thousands of players, it says users rarely buy on their first store visit, but that 80% of first-time visitors return within 30 days.

For players who convert within the first week of visiting a store, the median time for doing so is 2.6 days.

It also found that 50% of first-time buyers go on to make a second purchase, half of them within seven days of making the first one.

63% of players who make two purchases make a third one within another week. And 70% of players who make four purchases will make a fifth.

In terms of how players spend, credit card transactions (35%) are the globally dominant payment method for web store purchases, ahead of the likes of PayPal (20%) and Apple Pay (20%).

However, Appcharge says regional payment habits vary significantly. For example, Google Play is widely adopted in Spain (43%) and Italy (40%), but much weaker in the US (12%).

Apple Pay is most popular in the UK, accounting for over a third (37%) of transactions, and Australia (26%), but less so in Germany (11%) and the Netherlands (11%).

In the Netherlands, bank-linked online payment method iDEAL (68%) dominates transactions, and in Poland, Blik (54%) is the leading mobile payment method.
