December’s top mobile game downloads

Here are the top mobile game downloads from last month, according to Appmagic data.

Appmagic’s estimates do not include numbers from China’s fractured Android market. There’s also commentary on December 2024’s most notable trends from the top 20 and beyond below.

In between these monthly updates, you can also keep tabs on Appmagic’s top grossing and top downloads charts here.

The Christmas period seems to have pushed out some of the more transient or hypercasual-style games from the top rankings in favour of evergreen stalwarts.

Block Blast was the top download in December, its best-ever month of downloads by far. It reached over 35m installs after hitting a previous high of over 25m in November.

When any major school holiday happens you can bet Roblox gets a boost, and December 2024 was no different – having posted ~14m installs in November it generated over 20m downloads last month, performing particularly strongly from Christmas eve right through to the end of the year.

Pokémon TCG Pocket is showing signs of slowing after its colossal launch in November. It was down from 29m+ installs in that month to just over 15m in December 2024, though this is still pretty impressive – it seems much of the interest in the game is organic.

The evergreen Subway Surfers always sees a download spike across the December-January period, and just like clockwork the same thing happened last month. Though it saw a dip in monthly downloads in the second half of 2024, December saw it return to the 15m-ish downloads it had regularly been pulling in throughout the spring and summer of last year.

8 Ball Pool is similar – a very long term resident in the top download charts that does particularly well when folks are unwrapping new devices. December 2024’s 15m installs is actually its second biggest month ever after March 2020’s 15.5m downloads – quite a feat for a game that launched on mobile over a decade ago.

Garena’s two Free Fire games also saw big gains from November as many players upgraded their devices. The more power-hungry Max edition saw its best month of downloads since October 2021, ahead of the ‘base’ game by 2m installs. Both games were up about 3m installs on November’s total.

Usually a solid performer, Ludo King has nosedived recently yet retained a spot in the top ten. It was generating 15-17m installs per month for most of 2024, but dropped to 10m in November and hit just over 11m last month. Has it reached saturation in key market India, or has a new crop of Ludo games dented this game’s appeal? Likely a bit of both.

This month’s ‘big in India’ racing game is the Android-only Real Moto Driving Racing World, which was released in November. This one broke up the evergreen contenders with strong performance at the start of the month, but tailed off near the end. And kudos to the developer for calling itself ‘Racing Games – make it for fun’ – truly a studio name that could only exist in mobile.

Outfit7’s My Talking Tom 2, like so many others here, also did well after December 25 as folks loaded old favourites onto new devices – though it wasn’t up massively from the 8-9m monthly downloads it had been posting throughout 2024.

December’s top mobile game downloads: 11-20

11. Pizza Ready (Supercent): 10.5m
12. My Supermarket Simulator (Game District): 10.4m
13. Perfect Tidy (ABI Game Studio): 10.3m
14. Mini Games: Calm & Relax (Galaxy Astronaut Games): 10.27m
15. Offline Games – No Wifi Games (JindoBlu): 9.94m
16. Jelly Master: Mukbang ASMR (Cylinder Global): 9.93m
17. Hole.io (Voodoo): 9.9m
18. Car Race (iKame/Zego): 9.2m
19. Township (Playrix): 8.9m
20. Candy Crush Saga (King): 8.7m

A trio of games from last month’s top ten dropped into the 11-20 bracket in December as evergreen titles struck back. My Supermarket Simulator, Perfect Tidy and TikTok sensation Mini Games all dropped several spots, while WinZo‘s game compilation drops a whopping 54 places having broken into the top ten in November.

Players in Indonesia powered Jelly Master: Mukbang ASMR into 16th spot, and outside the top 20 there are notable month-on-month rises for Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Last War: Survival and Bridge Race in 26th, 27th and 28th respectively.

Two more notable newbies worth mentioning: Netflix’s Squid Game: Unleashed, which is completely free to all players whether you have a Netflix sub or not, entered the chart at 52. It has racked up nearly 6m installs since its release on December 18.

And finally there’s Infinity Nikki, released on December 3, which had a whole month to make an impact. But the dress-up game’s mobile downloads look a little soft – with 5.4m downloads to date, it’s at 60th place in December’s chart. Clearly lots of folks are opting to play this one on PC and console instead.
