Dream Games’ Royal Match has passed $3bn, says Appfigures

Royal Match has passed $3bn in gross lifetime revenue from 300m installs, according to Appfigures estimates.

The data firm says that Dream Games flagship puzzler passed 10m downloads six months after its global launch in early 2021. The game then passed $1bn in lifetime gross revenue a little over two years later, in April 2023.

Royal Match then hit $2bn gross revenue nine months after that, in January of 2024, as revenue momentum continued. Dream Games’ debut reached $3bn seven months after that. “At this rate, we may see another billion before the end of the year!” said Appfigures boss Ariel Michaeli.

The US and India each make up roughly 14% of the nearly 300m downloads to date. These are the only two countries to have a double-digit share of downloads, continued Michaeli.

“Revenue, however, comes predominately from the US App Store, which explains Royal Match’s absurdly high Apple Search Ads spend where it commands the highest share of impressions across hundreds of very popular keywords like “games”, “puzzle games”, and “free games”. Japan, the UK, Germany, and South Korea round out the five highest-earning countries for the game.”

Appfigures does note, however, that download momentum is slowing, with installs dropping 58% after peaking in February.

“The title ended August with 7.6m new downloads, the lowest it’s been since March of 2023,” added Michaeli. “Don’t be alarmed, however. Most apps and games are following a similar trend.”

The numbers are broadly similar to estimates from fellow data firm Appmagic. It too shows that Royal Match is at around 300m downloads to date – 296m. Appmagic’s estimates are based on developer payout, and do not include Apple and Google’s 30% cut of IAPs. So Dream’s estimated $2.3bn earnings from Royal Match IAPs is roughly in line with Appfigures’ gross revenue figure.

Dream Games’ next game, Royal Kingdom, is currently in soft launch. It is currently available on iOS and Android in the UK, Canada, Philippines, Turkey and US. As we discussed in August 2023, Royal Kingdom takes the very successful Royal Match formula and adds more PvP competition and a builder element.
