Hasbro makes about $10m a month from Monopoly Go

Scopely megahit Monopoly Go is earning licence holder Hasbro around $10m a month, according to the toy maker’s CEO Chris Cox.

Hasbro just announced its Q4 and full year financial results, in which it confirmed that licensee Scopely paid Monopoly IP owner Hasbro $112m for the full financial year. The game earned Hasbro $38m in Q4 alone, it said.

In the earnings call that followed, Hasbro CEO Cox said the toy maker is earning “about ten million a month” from Monopoly Go. He also said that the recent TV campaign featuring Will Ferrell as Mr. Monopoly also “drove some upside” for Scopely, and hinted that the game’s ‘Tycoon Club’ webshop was earning a good chunk of the game’s revenue.

“Monopoly Go is just a fantastic game that’s very sticky…it engages consumers,” said Cox. “I also think they’ve been smart in terms of how they’ve managed the business, the Tycoon Club isn’t the majority of their revenue, but it’s been a nice way for them to be able to capture a bigger share of revenue on that, which also benefits us.”

“There likely is going to be some month over month moderation in the business over time,” he continued. “This is what naturally happens with mobile but we feel pretty confident in that 10 million number.”

Hasbro said back in July 2024 that Monopoly Go had earned a total of $3bn since launch. The game passed the milestone a few months after Scopely moved to dismiss speculation that it had spent so much on UA that the game wasn’t yet profitable.

Earlier this week, a Bloomberg report linked Scopely with a $3.5bn move for Niantic’s game division, including crown jewel Pokémon Go. Scopely’s name has also been thrown around as industry folks speculate as to who bought AppLovin’s game portfolio.
