Marvel Snap’s US downtime has cost Second Dinner well over half a million dollars

Marvel Snap’s US downtime has cost developer Second Dinner at least $600k so far, according to mobilegamer.biz estimates using Appmagic data.

The big-brand card battler was an unexpected victim of TikTok’s brief US ban last weekend, and remains unavailable to download from US app stores. Marvel Snap has only just come back online for US-based players who have the game installed already, and over the weekend, Second Dinner offered plentiful in-game rewards as compensation for the downtime.

Second Dinner previously announced it is seeking a new publisher for Marvel Snap, as its current deal with Nuverse, which is owned by TikTok parent company Bytedance, puts it as risk of further instability.

[UPDATE: Marvel Snap is back and available to download on the US App Store. It is now published under a new Second Dinner-owned account.]

The whole ordeal has cost the firm well over half a million in IAP earnings, according to our estimates. Appmagic data suggests that Marvel Snap usually earns ~$125k per day in the equivalent period following the release of a new battle pass, which comes at the start of the month. But with the game unavailable in the US, daily earnings have been ~$35k.

Or, to cut it another way, typical weekly earnings for the equivalent week in the game’s battle pass cycle are ~$850k, based on November and December. For January, that figure was ~$240k. So a rough estimate of the game’s IAP losses to date stand at ~$610k.

“We. Are. Back! We can’t thank you all enough for being so patient with us through this downtime ordeal,” said Second Dinner on X a few days ago. “Your outpouring of support to all of us at Second Dinner was heard and greatly appreciated.”

From last week: ‘Second Dinner seeks new Marvel Snap publisher amid US-China instability’.

“Marvel Snap isn’t just our job but it’s our passion,” Second Dinner continued. “It’s a passion that we share with many of you all around the world. It’s not something we take for granted, so thank you again for your dedication, patience, and support.”

Second Dinner has also said on X that work has begun to bring the game back to the App Store and Google Play in the US. It estimated it’ll return to the iOS sometime this week, and that it’ll likely return to Google’s Android store imminently.
