Three years ago, I hit publish on the first week of mobilegamer.biz stories, two of which are quite fun to look back on given what’s happened since.
This site was the first with a few details of what would become Monument Valley 3, eventually released through Netflix in December 2024. It was also the first to clock the expensively-assembled gang of games execs that moved to Netflix in late 2021 and early 2022. That Netflix one, in particular, seemed to hit a nerve.
Three years in, that has kept going – this site keeps breaking exclusives and doing proper reporting on what’s actually happening in the mobile games industry. Sometimes doing that also upsets the very large, very powerful companies in this business, but that’s all part of the fun.
Numbers are up, industry feedback is really pleasing, and i’ve got another veteran games industry reporter, Tom Ivan, covering the regular jobs, data and new game digests. The newsletter is close to 10,000 subscribers, and should pass that milestone soon.

Mobilegamer.biz is also moving into events next month with Off The Record – a curated gathering of big-brained industry leaders on April 2. It’s at Miniclip’s office in central London, and you should register your interest here if you want an invite.
This is all good stuff, but there are also gaps in the offering I want to fill in the next year. Right now in media you need to put as much work into distribution as you do making content; currently the best way to get noticed is doing opinion-led video and audio. But there are also loads of industry influencers out there doing this sort of thing already, and they’re pretty good.
So yes, I’m still working out where video and podcasts fit into this, and what this site can offer that’s genuinely new, interesting or useful in some way. More on that soon, maybe. Or maybe not, we’ll see.

Events is a new thing. I’ve always felt there was a gap for smaller, curated games industry gatherings where people can get into an honest conversation, learn something and build proper relationships. April’s event could be the start of something new and cool, and it’s exciting. Sign up here if you want an invite.
And for the dedicated few that actually read articles all the way to the end – well done, you’re part of a dying breed. If you like and value the work I do, you can support this site with sponsorship (email me here), or the easiest way to keep this whole thing going is to whack a paid newsletter subscription on expenses. You get an exclusive, paid subscriber-only editorial every Friday if you do. Thanks for reading.
