October’s top mobile game downloads

Here are the top mobile game downloads from last month, according to Appmagic data.

Appmagic’s estimates do not include numbers from China’s fractured Android market. There’s also commentary on October’s most notable trends from the top 20 and beyond below.

In between these monthly updates, you can also keep tabs on Appmagic’s top grossing and top downloads charts here.

After five consecutive months of declining downloads, Block Blast is up again month-on-month. With just under 26m downloads in October, Hungry Studio’s puzzler is back to roughly where it was before that slight summer slump.

Roblox’s summer bonanza has calmed down a little; lots of kids are back in school and the whole Grow A Garden / Steal a Brainrot thing is cooling off. It’s down a little bit on September’s monthly total, but still not far off the top spot, and still on an upwards trajectory if you zoom out a little.

Oddly Free Fire Max is down a little when you look at the last six months’ average monthly downloads, but has been steadily climbing the top download charts because other titles like Subway Surfers, Pizza Ready and Ludo King have plateaued a little.

The most striking thing about these monthly charts is the presence of X-Clash: Dare from Bingchuan Network. It’s an odd one – as we’ve reported before, it has undergone multiple name and gameplay changes and spiked previously based on some canny/cynical (delete as applicable) UA shenanigans involving a ‘save the doge’ ad.

Again, as we’ve reported before, get past the UA minigame and it’s actually a squad battler. But whatever Bingchuan Network is doing with its UA is clearly working – it’s up 148 places month-on-month, having posted ‘just’ 3.6m installs in September. The top markets in the last 30 days are India (29% of downloads), Indonesia (16%) and Brazil (12%).

As mentioned above, regular contenders Subway Surfers, Pizza Ready and Ludo King are each broadly where they usually are in the 12-14m installs range, while Supercell’s Clash Royale’s rise continues, though it is slowing a little bit. It was generating about 3m installs per month at the start of the year, but posted about 12m installs in October – the highest total since way back in March 2017.

Vita Mahjong and Tile Explorer have each been steadily establishing themselves in the top ten downloads lately, too. Vita Mahjong has now posted about 11m monthly installs for the third month running, while Tile Explorer is also now regularly pulling in 10-11m downloads per month.

In the 10-20 bracket, the big month-on-month risers are EA FC Mobile (up nine places), and Voodoo’s Paper.io 2 (up 21 spots). Outside the top 20, there are a load of titles rising quickly month-on-month, like the snappily-titled Offline Games No Wifi Fun 100+. It is up 80 places and registered 7.4m downloads in October.

Other games on the up include Football League 2025 (up 15 places, 7.2m installs), Block Crazy Robo World Craft (up 79 places with 7.1m downloads) and Azur Games’ Worms Zone (up 16 places, 7m installs).
