Savvy Games Group is to acquire Mobile Legends: Bang Bang maker Moonton for an estimated $6bn, according to a Bloomberg report.
The deal had been previously rumoured by Reuters, with that initial report estimating that the deal would total up to $7bn, and could be finalised this quarter.
Today’s Bloomberg report cites sources familiar with the deal who estimate it could close in the “near future” and that Savvy values Moonton at $6bn.
Bloomberg’s report is based on an internal memo sent around at the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang maker by CEO Zhang Yunfan, which reportedly says that Savvy will leave Moonton’s management in place and employees will be offered new incentives after the deal closes.
Moonton is currently owned by Bytedance, TikTok’s parent company, which has recently been retreating from the mobile games business.
If the deal goes through, it’ll be another major mobile game acquisition for Savvy Games Group, following on from its acquisition of Scopely for $4.9bn in 2023.
Scopely then completed a $3.5bn swoop for Niantic’s game catalogue, led by Pokémon Go, in March 2025.
Moonton’s flagship title, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, is a League of Legends-style MOBA that has over 1.5bn installs and a monthly active user base of over 110m, according to Moonton. It is claims to be “among the top 10 most-played games in over 80 countries”, and is particularly popular in Indonesia, Philippines, India, Brazil, Malaysia and Thailand.
Savvy Games Group is the gaming arm of Saudi Arabia’s state-owned Public Investment Fund, which is also leading the group that’s acquiring Electronic Arts for $55bn. Once that deal closes, EA will be taken private, a move that has caused concerns among many in the industry. We spoke to some insider sources about what might happen next for EA here.
