September’s top mobile game downloads

Here are the top mobile game downloads from last month, according to Appmagic data.

Appmagic’s estimates do not include numbers from China’s fractured Android market. There’s also commentary on September’s most notable trends from the top 20 and beyond below.

In between these monthly updates, you can also keep tabs on Appmagic’s top grossing and top downloads charts here.

The back-to-school effect means that September’s Roblox downloads are down dramatically from August’s record 33m+ installs to just under 25m.

And yet the interest around the UGC platform is still big enough for it to be comfortably ahead of closest contender Block Blast. Hungry Studio’s puzzler has actually posted its fifth straight month-on-month decline in downloads, and yet remains ahead of Subway Surfers, which claims about 17m installs practically every month now.

There’s a newbie in fourth: Vietnamese studio XGame’s Android-only Prison Master game arrived from nowhere to register over 14.7m downloads in September. The downloads are mostly in India, which takes up about 30% of all lifetime installs. Other markets like Pakistan, Brazil, Indonesia and Bangladesh are on 5-6% of installs.

Both Supercent’s Pizza Ready and Gametion’s Ludo King had typical months in September, though both are down about 2m installs on August’s total.

In seventh, the Clash Royale comeback continues. Supercell’s surging action-strategy game posted its best monthly installs total since June 2017 with 11.3m downloads – a seventh straight month of growth. Before the revival, it was generating about 2.3m downloads every month.

Vita Mahjong had been steadily rising up the rankings since launch, but has now seen a second month of monthly installs decline after hitting over 13.6m downloads in July. It’s the second month running it has posted just under 11m downloads.

Garena’s Free Fire has been on a good run with some anniversary updates and a big Naruto collab, but has dropped a little since all that ended. September’s tally of 10.5m monthly installs is the game’s lowest monthly total since December 2023.

Candy Crush Saga’s rise up three spots into the top ten is more down to declines elsewhere than a surge for King’s flagship puzzler – it is, as ever, hovering around the 9m monthly installs mark.

Going the other way are Hole.io, which dropped six places month-on-month, and Tile Explorer, which is down 7 spots.

After surging into the top ten in August with ~12m installs, Dream Games’ Royal Kingdom is down 17 places in September with 6.9m downloads, nearly half the installs it posted the previous month.

Finally, an honourable mention for Rollic’s Color Black Jam, which leapt up the charts 39 places for September with ~6.6m downloads, up from 5.7m in August.
