Stillfront closes Super Free Games, sunsets Ellen’s Garden Restoration

Swedish roll up group Stillfront has closed Super Free Games, the maker of Word Collect, Word Nut, Trivia Star and several social casino titles.

The company confirmed to us that around 10 people will be laid off at the end of the transition period and roughly five people will be transferred within the group. Stillfront acquired the Concord, California-based studio for $150m in 2021. The news was confirmed in the group’s latest financial report, which also confirmed the closure of Storm8’s makeover game, Ellen’s Garden Restoration.

Super Free Games had staff based at its HQ in Concord, California, as well as San Francisco, Oakland, Los Angeles, New York, Boise, Arlington, Singapore and Berlin, according to its LinkedIn profile.

The studio’s profitable word games will now be made by Stillfront’s Moonfrog studios based in MENA and APAC, with a handover taking place at the end of Q3 2025. Super Free’s other titles will be closed “once they are no longer cash flow positive,” said Stillfront.

From May: ‘Stillfront poised to sell or close studios as strategic review begins’.

“Following the successful transfer of 24 legacy games from Storm8, we made the difficult but necessary decision to shut down Super Free’s operations,” said Stillfront. “This is one of several actions underway as part of the strategic review announced earlier this year.”

Appmagic data suggests Word Collect was Super Free’s top earning game by IAP revenue, generating over $70m in its lifetime. Hot Vegas Casino Slot Machines ($52m), VIP Deluxe Slots ($21m), Trivia Star ($17.5m), Bingo Games ($11m), Epic Jackpot Slots ($11m) and Word Nut ($8m) were its other top performers.

Stillfront announced a strategic review in May, with the owner of Supremacy, Albion Online, Goodgame, Jawaker, Kixeye and more looking to streamline under new boss Alexis Bonte.
