Helsinki’s Ubisoft RedLynx could make up to 60 layoffs as it restructures to refocus on small screens.
The proposed job cuts will go through a consultation period first, but will hit the studio’s production and admin teams hardest. Those working on game engine Snowdrop will not be affected, said Ubisoft.
The goal is for Ubisoft RedLynx, best known for the Trials series, to refocus on “small screen” games. It had also been working as a multiplatform support studio, and recently helped port Star Wars Outlaws to Nintendo Switch 2.
Ubisoft RedLynx MD Celine Pasula said: “This proposal reflects difficult choices we may need to make, and it comes after careful consideration. We recognize the weight of this announcement and want to acknowledge the impact this proposal may have on individuals and teams.”
Pasula added: “We are confident that, with the proposed changes, RedLynx would continue to play a meaningful role in Ubisoft’s future – driving technical excellence on mobile devices, and strengthening Ubisoft’s cross and multi-platform capabilities on small screens to expand our audience reach.”
It’s another blow for the Finnish games scene, which has just seen layoffs and restructuring at Angry Birds maker Rovio, as we reported yesterday.
