Amazon is closing its Android app store

Amazon is closing its Android app store on August 20 2025.

According to a developer email and support page spotted by TechCrunch, developers will no longer be able to submit new Android apps to the store from today. But devs can continue to submit updates to existing live apps up until August 20.

IAPs have also been deactivated for customers in Japan, though all other territories will continue as before.

Amazon says in the FAQ about the move that it cannot guarantee that any apps downloaded from the Amazon app store for Android will function from August 20 onwards. Subscriptions bought through the Amazon app store can still be managed in the app or on the website.

Amazon Coins, which can be used to make purchases in some apps and games, are discontinued too. From today they are no longer available to buy and any unused Coins will be refunded on after August 20.

The Amazon app store will still be functioning on the tech giant’s own devices, such as Fire TV and Fire Tablet.
