The world’s biggest puzzle game Block Blast appears to have been pulled from Google’s Play Store. The Tetris-like puzzler is still live on the iOS App Store.
At the time of writing, the game does not appear in the Play Store’s chart listings, in search or on Hungry Studio’s developer page. We asked both Hungry Studio and Google for a comment on the matter a few hours ago, but neither has responded yet. We will update this story if they do.
[Update: Hungry Studio has confirmed to us that the game is back on the Play Store, but did not offer a comment or explanation for its brief absence.]
In January, developer Hungry Studio said its puzzler had reached 70m daily active users and 300m monthly active users globally across over 200+ countries and regions.
Block Blast topped 2025’s downloads charts, according to Appmagic, and came a close second to Roblox in 2024. In 2023, its first year in the market, it was the fifth biggest download of the year.
Hungry Studio VP Jason Wang told us in January 2025 that the developer had effectively A/B tested its way to the top of the charts, and that it is “obsessed” with the practice.
“Every week, we run more than 50 A/B tests across different versions of features, visuals, and gameplay mechanics,” he told us. “Most of these tests – about 97% – fail. But we see this as a strength, not a weakness.”
He also made it clear that alot of the game’s success is down to its UA strategy. “Honestly, we can openly admit that Block Blast’s growth has heavily relied on user acquisition,” he told us.
“It’s no secret that the user acquisition landscape is extremely competitive right now. And to be fair, developers can’t really expect to thrive just by leaning on UA strategies anymore.”
