EA is closing The Sims Mobile

EA is delisting The Sims Mobile from app stores today, and its servers will close permanently on January 20 2026.

The title has been running for seven years, and has been updated over 50 times, said EA in a blog post confirming the news. Appmagic data suggests the title earned EA over $81m from 152m downloads since launch.

In the last six months, Appmagic estimates suggest downloads and revenue have declined steadily, with The Sims Mobile earning EA roughly $150k per month while generating around 300k monthly downloads.

The older Sims mobile game, The Sims FreePlay, remains live on the iOS and Android app stores, and continues to be supported by EA. It appears that The Sims Mobile, which launched in 2018, was designed to replace The Sims FreePlay, which was launched in December 2011. But EA had not successfully moved players over to the newer title, and FreePlay continues to attract greater monthly revenue and downloads than the newer title – around 1m downloads and $2.2m per month, according to Appmagic.

The final update for The Sims Mobile went live earlier today and removed IAPs from the game. All players will receive unlimited energy from today, and all content will be unlocked for all players on January 6 2026 ahead of the game’s closure on January 20 2026. All purchases made in the game will still work up until that date.

EA said on X: “We’re deeply grateful for the love and passion you have all poured into TSM. Thank you for your support, dedication, and creativity. Thank you for sharing this journey with us. As a token of appreciation, we want the final chapter to feel special and give all TSM players one last chance to experience everything the game has to offer.”

EA will be acquired and taken private next year assuming the $55bn deal led by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund is approved.

EA has been shuttering multiple mobile games in the past few years, including Kim Kardashian Hollywood, The Simpsons: Tapped Out, Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle-Earth, Tap Sports Baseball and F1 Mobile. It also merged its mobile teams into its ‘HD’ counterparts in March 2024.

Those moves followed the cancellation of Apex Legends Mobile, Battlefield Mobile, and the shuttering of mobile studio Industrial Toys in January 2023. We later discussed the demise of Battlefield Mobile studio Industrial Toys with studio founder Alex Seropian.
