Cheer Games, the Barcelona-based studio formed by the minds behind hit game Hexa Sort, has just landed $4.5m in pre-seed funding.
The investment was led by Makers Fund, with participation from Play Ventures and a group of angel investors. The funding will help accelerate development of Cheer’s forthcoming titles and expand its studio in Barcelona. Cheer currently employs 11 staff.
The studio’s founding team are all former leaders at Lion Studios. CEO Emre Gercel, CPO Berkay Ozturk, CTO Ertan Ünver and CMO Kutay Koralturk each played a major role in shipping Hexa Sort, which Cheer says has generated $50m in IAP revenue to date.
According to today’s announcement, the studio is focused on creating “durable, scalable puzzle IP” and aims to build “long-lived puzzle franchises through disciplined product execution.”
Cheer Games CEO and cofounder Emre Gercel added: “We started Cheer because we believed we could build something more durable than the industry’s short-term thinking allows for.”
“Barcelona gives us the global stage, our Turkish roots give us the hunger, and this team gives me complete confidence that we’ll deliver.”
