EA has pulled soft launch title Plants Vs Zombies 3 from app stores. The game will return soon after a major overhaul, the publishing giant said.
The game has been in soft launch since January, when EA released the title on iOS and Android in the UK, Netherlands, Australia and Philippines. At the time, EA said a global launch would be coming later in 2024.
But in a post on the game’s blog, EA said that Plants Vs Zombies 3 has now been removed from app stores, with all in-app purchases in the game switched off. It’ll still be playable for those who have the game downloaded already until November 15, after which the game’s servers will go offline.

Earned or purchased in-game currency will be retained for players that have connected their game account through a Google Play, Apple ID or EA account, but all game progress will be reset for all players. “We’re excited to re-tool the game and bring you an even better PvZ3 experience soon,” added EA.
EA told us earlier this year that this iteration of PvZ3 has been in development since 2020, and is being made by a team of around 30. The third game adds a renovate/decorate meta to the familiar tower defence-style core gameplay. Appmagic estimates suggest it has been downloaded over 5.5m times during its soft launch.
EA has pulled multiple mobile games from App Store this year, including Kim Kardashian: Hollywood, The Simpsons: Tapped Out, Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle-Earth, Tap Sports Baseball and F1 Mobile.

The publishing giant also decided to merge its mobile teams into its ‘HD’ counterparts earlier this year, and in January 2023 announced the cancellation of Apex Legends Mobile, Battlefield Mobile, and the shuttering of mobile studio Industrial Toys. (We later discussed the demise of Battlefield Mobile studio Industrial Toys with studio founder Alex Seropian.)
As we reported recently, EA also barely mentioned its mobile efforts during its recent investor day, stating that it would only be making “concentrated bets” on standalone mobile titles going forwards.
