February’s top grossing mobile games worldwide

Here are last month’s top grossing mobile games worldwide, according to Appmagic data.

These numbers are estimates of developer earnings from IAP, and do not include ad revenue, web shop spend or Apple and Google’s 30% cut.

There’s commentary on which way the biggest earners are trending and other interesting tidbits from the top 20 and beyond below.

Honor of Kings is on top for the second month running after temporarily being dethroned by Scopely’s Monopoly Go in December (that game earned $800m in Q4 alone, according to a recent Hasbro earnings call).

Tencent’s MOBA is down around $13m year-on-year – that’s not bad considering the game had a (relatively) bumpy late 2023, during which it was earning closer to $110m every month. January’s ~$124m and last month’s ~$120m shows Honor of Kings is climbing back up to the $130-140m bracket it once occupied in late 2022/early 2023.

Monopoly Go is into its second month of declining monthly revenue after that wild peak in December. On a portfolio level, it’s a monster: Appmagic’s figures say Scopely earned around $133m from IAPs in February, and Monopoly Go accounted for $105m of that total. It should be noted, though, that those figures do not account for web shop revenue, which is apparently pretty big for several of Scopely’s other titles.

PUBG Mobile leapfrogged Royal Match last month, reflecting a month-on-month boost for the former and drop for the latter.

PUBG Mobile is back up past the $100m per month threshold for the first time since July 2023, while Royal Match dropped about $7m in revenue month-on-month. Dream Games’ puzzler earned just over $45m in February 2023, so 2024’s February total of over $81m is a huge year-on-year leap – nearly double.

Roblox is fractionally up on the previous year’s performance at $67m, and is about as steady as you can get in terms of monthly earnings, with spikes around school holidays.

Candy Crush Saga’s monthly IAP revenue hit its the lowest since February 2021 last month, coming in at $63.8m. Ad revenue may be rising to counter that, of course, but that’s nearly impossible to judge. It’s a notable year-on-year drop from February 2023’s total of ~$80m, It was going gangbusters back then, earning over $90m per month in January and March of last year.

Pokémon Go saw a huge spike in IAPs last month, up from $35m in January to $57.6m, rising seven places in the rankings. It’s the game’s best performance since August 2023, and based mostly on the success of the Global Sinnoh Tour, which saw revenue peak on February 24 and 25. It earned over $5m on both days.

Hoyoverse duo Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail are in eighth and ninth respectively, with the former game pretty flat month-on-month but down an incredible ~$85m year-on-year.

Genshin Impact was regularly earning $100-130m back in late 2022 and early 2023, but plummeted as soon as Honkai: Star Rail came along in April 2023, as we’ve reported previously. Star Rail, meanwhile, is up by around $18.6m month-on-month as a result of a big ‘2.0’ update on February 5.

As we’ve noted before, Dragonball Z: Dokkan Battle’s revenue profile is as spiky as its protagonists’ hair. An in-game event, we assume, prompted a wild earnings surge in February which pushed it up the charts by 30 places. IAP earnings leapt from around $19.7m in January to over $51m last month, its best performance since July 2021.

February’s top grossing mobile games worldwide: 11-20

11. Coin Master (Moon Active): $50.95m
12. Whiteout Survival (Century Games): $47.1m
13. Last War: Survival Game (FirstFun): $45.3m
14. Gardenscapes (Playrix): $37.6m
15. Monster Strike (Xflag): $36.8m
16. League of Legends: Wild Rift (Tencent): $34.8m
17. Clash of Clans (Supercell): $31.8m
18. Brawl Stars (Supercell): $31.3m
19. Teamfight Tactics: Golden Spatula (Tencent): $28.8m
20. CrossFire: Legends (Tencent): $28.7m

Moon Active’s Coin Master is down three spots and about $8m month-on-month, while Whiteout Survival holds steady at 12.

Just below that is the rising Last War: Survival Game, which appears to have mastered that ‘lane-shooter’ style of UA ad. It has rocketed up the top grossing chart since it started seriously picking up steam in November 2023. It earned ~$2m back then, so it’s been quite a ride from there to February’s total of $45.3m.

League of Legends: Wild Rift had a great month, apparently at the expense of complimentary title TFT: Golden Spatula. Wild Rift leapt up 14 spots to hit around $34.8m; Golden Spatula, meanwhile, dropped 10 spots down to 19th, having gatecrashed the top ten last month.

Supercell duo Clash of Clans and Brawl Stars are both up month-on-month, though the latter game is showing the much more dramatic growth. Brawl Stars has been rising since November 2023, when it earned ~$11m, to hit $31.3m last month. It’s quite a comeback – February 2024 was one of its top earning months ever, and has brought the game back the level it was at during its peak in 2020 and 2021.

Outside the top 20, Eggy Party‘s global launch on February 23 pushed it up the rankings 35 spots, earning ~$25.7m. And while EA restructures its mobile division, its flagship mobile game EA Sports FC is on the comeback trail after dropping under $10m in IAP earnings for January. The $14.4m it earned in February is its best month of revenue since July 2023.
