Integrated Reality Labs raises $1.5m to launch real-world multiplayer game Slap IRL

The studio behind a mobile spin on real-world game Assassin has raised $1.5m from a group of angels and VCs, we can reveal.

Integrated Reality Labs has raised the cash to launch real-world multiplayer game Slap IRL, which is based on popular college campus game Assassin, sometimes also known as Senior Assassin – a real-world manhunt-type game.

Slap IRL is set to launch worldwide next month, and has been in soft launch since April 2024.

The $1.5m round of pre-seed financing was oversubscribed, we’re told, and IRL’s backers include former Activision exec Bruce Hack, former Roblox leader Grace Francisco and VCs Dorm Room Fund, Robin Hood Ventures and StageNext Fund, among others.

Slap IRL is built on Integrated Reality Labs’ own tech platform, which uses low latency peer-to-peer proximity detection to enable players to ‘hunt’ and tag each other. The studio also plans to release more variations on real-world multiplayer games after Slap IRL launches next month.
