Is Moon Active about to take aim at Scopely, Voodoo and the rising ‘tile match’ genre?

As regular readers of our soft launch and new games digests may have noticed, two new Moon Active games have broken cover in the last month – and the Coin Master maker just added a third new game to its roster.

It’s called Match Dream: Tile Puzzle, and appears to be the Israeli firm’s take on the popular tile matching genre.

It’s a category that appears to be gathering pace: as we reported in July’s top download charts, there were three ’tile matchers’ in the top 20: Tile Explorer (Learnings), Vita Mahjong (Vita Studio) and Tile Club (Gameovation).

Moon Active’s take on the genre, Match Dreams (above), soft launched on the App Store and Google Play in the last few days in the Phillippines, with the Android version also set up for release in India. It has not registered any downloads yet, though, so is likely in early behind-closed-doors testing.

The game’s product page promises “dreamy landscapes, calming visuals, and quick, satisfying challenges”. The tile matching action also has a “gentle timer to keep you focused”.

The Coin Master maker has not released a major new internally-developed title since Pet Master in late 2019. It has, however, acquired two titles since then: Magmatic Games’ Travel Town and Good Job Games’ Zen Match, both snapped up 2022. Pet Master, meanwhile, is no longer available on iOS or Android, and other limited or beta releases like Cozy Town and Forces of Freedom have also been discontinued.

Match Dream: Tile Puzzle joins two more recent soft launches from the Israeli firm. Coin Master – Board Adventure appears to be Moon Active’s take on Monopoly Go – which itself is effectively Scopely’s big-brand version of Coin Master. It has now registered a small number of downloads in India and the Philippines.

Shortly after Coin Master – Board Adventure broke cover, Moon Active quietly launched another new title, Hole Stars: Puzzle Game.

This game, which has gathered a couple of thousand downloads in the Philippines, appears to be Moon Active’s take on games like Voodoo’s Hole.io and Homa’s All In Hole.

The Israeli firm’s flagship game, Coin Master, is still earning the firm between $55m and $65m in IAP earnings every month, according to Appmagic. Sensor Tower estimates suggest that the casual casino or coin looter game has earned over $6bn in lifetime revenue, having launched in 2016.
