King and Mojang quietly soft launch Minecraft Blast

King and Mojang have soft launched a new puzzler, Minecraft Blast, in Malaysia.

It’s iOS only for now, and an FAQ posted on Minecraft.net says it is “extremely early days“ for the project. The Malaysia test is part of a soft launch that may expand over time depending on player feedback, says the FAQ.

“Minecraft Blast will be free to play and combine modern match puzzle gameplay with ever-evolving scenarios set in a Minecraft-themed world,” says minecraft.net. “The game will offer quick, easy to jump-in-and-play sessions plus the ability to unlock and build imaginative Minecraft-style spaces.”

“We’re excited to be on this journey with King and looking forward to sharing more in the future as the project progresses.”

It’s the first major new game from King since Candy Crush Solitaire, which launched worldwide back in February of this year.

Outside of Minecraft itself, Mojang’s efforts in mobile have been limited to date. Its last spin-off, Minecraft Earth, was an AR and geolocation-led take on the block-building formula. It launched in May 2019, and closed in June 2021.
