May’s top mobile game downloads

Here are the top mobile game downloads from last month, according to Appmagic data.

Appmagic’s estimates do not include numbers from China’s fractured Android market. There’s also commentary on May’s most notable trends from the top 20 and beyond below.

In between these monthly updates, you can also keep tabs on Appmagic’s top grossing and top downloads charts here.

Block Blast has been the most downloaded game in the world for six months straight now. The last time it wasn’t top of the download charts was back when Pokémon TCG Pocket went nuclear at launch back in November.

And again, Block Blast is the top download with room to spare, clocking nearly 14m more downloads than its nearest rival Roblox.

Roblox has racked up about 20m monthly downloads for the last three months, and Subway Surfers is even more consistent – it has registered 15m-ish downloads for the last six months.

Ludo King is back to racking up about 14m downloads per month again after a wobble that saw it dip under 10m at the end of 2024 and the start of this year.

Bravestar’s Meme Merge: Drop Puzzle is this month’s surprise new entry, a game that appeared to soft launch in December 2023 but only just rocketed up the charts.

It registered just over 1k downloads in April but suddenly starting generating about a million downloads per day from mid-May onwards. It would have charted even higher had it launched earlier in the month – we’ll see if it can maintain that velocity next month.

May was a pretty typical month for Supercent’s Pizza Ready with ~13m installs, but a record month for Moonton’s Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. The League Of Legends-style MOBA scored a best-ever monthly total of 12.3m, and has been rising fast since December 2024 despite getting caught up in the US’ TikTok ban shenanigans back in January.

Garena’s two Free Fire SKUs are in eighth and ninth spot, each with nearly 12m downloads in May. The higher-end ‘Max’ variety of the game appears to be racking up about the same monthly installs as the ‘main’ edition now – it was previously a few million behind every month.

Voodoo’s Hole.io is another consistent performer. It evened out for several years after its breakout success as a hypercasual game back in 2018, but Voodoo appears to have rebooted the game last summer, with both downloads and IAP revenue rising pretty consistently ever since.

May’s top mobile game downloads: 11-20

11. Merge Fellas (TapMen): 10.8m
12. Brainzot Tip tap Challenge (TSACom): 10.6m
13. No WiFi – Antistress Relax Toys (QY Studio): 10.6m
14. My Talking Tom 2 (Outfit7): 10.4m
15. Royal Kingdom (Dream Games): 10.3m
16. Cookingdom (ABI Games Studio): 10.3m
17. Paper.io 2 (Voodoo): 9.9m
18. EA Sports FC Mobile (EA): 9.8m
19. Extreme Car Driving Simulator (AxesInMotion Racing): 9.6m
20. Garena Delta Force (Garena): 9.6m

A couple of new titles were close to breaking into the top ten in May. Over 40% of TapMen’s Merge Fellas’ downloads came from Indonesia in May as it came from nowhere to hit nearly 10.8m installs.

It’s a similar story for TSACom’s Brainzot, which saw ~30% of its installs come from Indonesia – it’s one of those viral game compilations you might have seen on TikTok.

Has Dream Games’ very very expensive celebrity ad campaign started paying off? A bit – Royal Kingdom is up 96 places month-on-month after the marketing push began in min-April. For reference, it was pulling in around 2m downloads per month since launch in November 2024, then racked up over 4.5m in April as the ads rolled out, and ended May on just over 10.3m installs.

It’s also worth nothing the rise of Voodoo’s Paper.io 2, up 25 places month-on-month, and Garena’s Delta Force, which is gathering pace in its second month on the market.

Candy Crush Saga, meanwhile, drops out of the top 20 downloads for the first time in a long while, as do 8 Ball Pool and PUBG Mobile.
