Mobile leads the way for October 7’s One Special Day charity event

The mobile games business is once again set to contribute the vast majority of the money raised for charity event One Special Day, which takes place on Friday October 7.

One Special Day is the flagship campaign for SpecialEffect, a UK charity that helps people with physical disabilities get access to videogames. Partners will be handing over an entire day’s UK revenue from one of more of their games on October 7 to help raise funds, and most of them are in mobile.

2021’s One Special Day initiative raised $800k, and this year it returns with Supercell, Space Ape, First Touch Games, NaturalMotion, Outplay, MAG, New Star Games, DirtyBit, Fusebox, Fingersoft, Supersolid and Miniclip having already pledged their support. More partners and details will be announced as October 7 approaches.

“I can’t over-emphasise the importance of One Special Day in enabling our work to bring the joy of video games to physically disabled people across the world,” says SpecialEffect founder and CEO Mick Donegan.

“Our team is facing an ever-increasing demand for all of our services – accessibility advice, assessments, the expansion of resources such as gameaccess.info, our DevKit and our Eye Gaze Games website – and the generous support of the games industry in securing the future of these life-transforming, free to access initiatives is hugely appreciated.
