PlayStation has cut around 50 staff from its Studio Business Group, we’re told, which includes staff in its PlayStation Studios Mobile division.
One LinkedIn post from a staffer affected by the cuts last week claimed that PlayStation Studios Mobile had closed down entirely. Sony would not comment on its status, but most senior PlayStation Mobile staff remain in post, according to their LinkedIn profiles.
News of the cuts across PlayStation studios first emerged last week through a Bluesky post from Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier. Sony would not clarify which teams or games were affected by the cuts. It sent us the below statement:
“Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Studio Business Group has made several strategic adjustments to support long-term sustainability. As part of this process, there were limited workforce reductions across select teams. We greatly appreciate the contributions of all those impacted.”
We understand development will continue on PlayStation Mobile titles MLB The Show Mobile and Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble, both of which are currently in soft launch.
MLB The Show Mobile is currently in testing on both iOS and Android, and is registering downloads in Philippines, Colombia, Australia and Dominican Republic, according to Appmagic. It is being developed as a standalone mobile title by Sony’s San Diego Studio.
French studio Oh BiBi (Frag Pro Shooter, B.E.A.S.T, GoGo Magnet) is working with PlayStation and Insomniac on multiplayer arena shooter Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble, which quietly entered soft launch in November 2025. Appmagic data suggests it is currently picking up downloads in France, Indonesia, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden and the Philippines.
In 2022, PlayStation laid out what it called “aggressive growth plans” for mobile in an investor presentation which revealed plans to release 20% of its first party games on mobile by 2025. PlayStation hired a flurry of experienced mobile game execs throughout 2022, as well as acquiring mobile specialist Savage Game Studios for an undisclosed fee that summer.
In November 2023, Savage Game Studios’ leadership departed, and it was renamed Neon Koi. Then, in October 2024, the studio was closed before it had chance to ship the “AAA mobile live service action game” it was working on.
A month later, PlayStation appointed a new head of mobile: former EA, Disney, Meta and Zynga exec Olivier Courtemanche, who had previously been sharing the role with ex-Kabam bizdev exec Kris Davis since June 2023.
PlayStation also signed a strategic partnership with NCsoft in November 2023 to work on new opportunities together. The first fruits of that turned out to be mobile-first MMO Horizon Steel Frontiers, announced in November 2025.
Most recently, PlayStation has worked with NetEase to bring the Destiny series to mobile, launching Destiny: Rising in August 2025.
