Pokémon TCG Pocket hits $5m in daily earnings, closes in on $50m total

Pokémon TCG Pocket has now made The Pokémon Company nearly $50m since its launch on October 30, according to Appmagic data.

Its biggest single day of earnings to date was on Saturday November 9, when The Pokémon Company earned over $5.56m in IAP revenue from the title. It also earned over $5.1m on Friday November 8 from the game.

The card trading and battling game has topped download charts around the world since launch, generating a total of 17.m installs and just over $49m in IAP earnings to date for The Pokémon Company, according to Appmagic estimates. These numbers do not include Apple and Google’s 30% cut of IAPs and local taxes, so total consumer spend is likely to be over $65m.

As we reported previously, within its first week of release Pokémon TCG Pocket was earning its developer over $3m per day, but that appears to have stepped up to between $4-5.5m in recent days.

From last week: ‘Pokémon TCG Pocket is earning over $3m per day, with $12m+ banked to date‘.

The revenue is mostly coming from high spending players in Japan. Appmagic estimates suggest 43% of the $49m total earned by The Pokémon Company to date has come from players in Japan – that’s around $21m. 27% of the spend from US players, about $13.1m.

Download estimates to date show the US top with 32% of the 17.1m total installs, with Brazil second on 10% and Japan and Mexico on 5%.

Look at the numbers another way and you can really see the high spend in Japan. The game has been downloaded just over 800k times in Japan, but players there have spent over $21m – that’s roughly $26 in IAP spend per player, though typically most players don’t spend anything, so it’s likely a small number of hyper spenders driving the game.

Appmagic’s latest revenue per download estimates show that western players in ‘Tier 1’ markets like the US and Western Europe spend $2.2 per install on average, while players in Tier 1 Eastern markets, mainly Japan, are spending a huge $15.5 in revenue per download. Globally, revenue per download averages out at $2.86.

By platform, the latest Appmagic numbers estimate that $34.8m of that $49m total IAP earnings has come from iOS players, with IAP through Google Play on $14.3m. It’s the opposite story on downloads, with Android accounting for 11.2m installs to date and iOS on 5.9m.
