Tencent is set to buy a “small stake” in Block Blast maker Hungry Studio, according to a Bloomberg report.
The talks have been ongoing for several months, says Bloomberg, and a deal could be announced soon. Neither Tencent or Hungry Studio responded to Bloomberg’s request for comment.
Hong Kong-based Hungry Studio said recently that its flagship title Block Blast hit 70m daily average users and 300m monthly average users. That’s up from 40m DAU and 160m MAU reported by the company in December 2024.
Originally released in 2021, Appmagic data suggests it was the top download of 2025 with 368m installs last year. Block Blast also racked up an estimated 216m installs in 2024.

Jason Wang, VP of brand and marketing at Hungry Studio, told us in January 2025 that the company was “obsessed” with A/B testing, and ran over 10,000 A/B tests within Block Blast in 2024.
Chinese giant Tencent has previously invested in or acquired mobile studios on the hardcore and midcore end of the spectrum, with majority or large stakes in the likes of Supercell and Riot. It also owns Timi, which operates Honor of Kings and Call of Duty: Mobile, plus Lightspeed Studios, which runs PUBG Mobile, among many other studios.
