‘Tinder for games’ app Skich launches its own alternative app store

Mobile game discovery app Skich has launched its own alternative app store, we can reveal.

Skich Store is available for EU iPhones today through the company’s website, with an Android version also in development. It leans on the discoverability features of the original Skich app to offer what the company calls “an alternative app store on iPhone built specifically for mobile gamers”.

Skich says its discovery platform attracts 100,000 visitors per month. The Limassol, Cyprus-based company is backed by Gem Capital, which invested $1.5m in Skich back in 2022.

The new alternative app store has a Tinder-like swipe-based interface and a recommendation and matchmaking system. It also features wishlists and social mechanics that allow users to see which games friends and other like-minded users are playing.

“Game discovery has remained a major challenge for players and developers alike,” said Skich CEO Sergey Budkovski. “With AI making game production easier and competition fiercer, it’s time for a new approach. Skich Store is not just another app marketplace – it’s a platform designed specifically for gamers, making it easier than ever to find and enjoy new titles.”

Skich joins the likes of the Epic Games Store and Aptoide in the growing market for alternative app stores, though it’s not all good news in this space – as we’ve reported previously, Amazon is closing its Android store this summer, and Xbox’s ‘gamer-first’ app store remains missing in action.
