Warner and NetherRealm’s Mortal Kombat: Onslaught coming in 2023

The Mortal Kombat series is getting its own team battler next year.

NetherRealm and Warner Bros will release Mortal Kombat: Onslaught worldwide in 2023, a game which they say features a “mobile-exclusive cinematic story experience”. Players build a team of fighters from the Mortal Kombat universe and throw them into “massive real-time group battles,” says the press release.

The announcement comes as the gory fighting franchise celebrates its 30th anniversary. According to Warner and NetherRealm, sister title Mortal Kombat Mobile has over 150m lifetime installs since it launched in 2015.

NetherRealm chief creative officer Ed Boon had this to say about the game: “We are pushing the boundaries of Mortal Kombat to allow players to experience the franchise in new ways, while still staying true to its core visceral nature.”

“With Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, we reimagined Mortal Kombat into a strategic team-based collection RPG with fast-paced, group melee combat that both new and existing fans can enjoy.”
