Merge Mansion maker Metacore has confirmed that its work on farming game Everdale has ended.
It’s the second time the game has been cancelled. Everdale was initially developed and soft launched by Supercell, but was killed in October 2022. In January 2023, Supercell-backed studio Metacore announced it had picked up the game and would work on a new iteration of the title, though it did not commit to a full launch at the time.
Today, a blog post by Metacore CEO Mika Tammenkoski explained that the game has now been cancelled again, and that the IP would now return to original owner Supercell.
Tammenkoski explained that Metacore was “unable to find a path to improve its market fit and make it a sustainable business” since acquiring the game from Supercell 18 months ago.

“When we acquired Everdale from Supercell, we started with a deep dive into the game, with the hope of better understanding the game’s world and motivations of Everdale’s strong player community,” the blog continues. “We hoped to strengthen the world of Everdale, but never made any concrete promises for the game.”
“The team was on a mission to dismantle Everdale: We talked to the players and tried to find ways for the game to have a stronger market fit and become a sustainable business. Unfortunately, we have not been able to find a way to improve the game’s market fit to keep serving Everdale’s audience long-term.”

Supercell had initially soft launched Everdale in August 2021, earning the Finnish firm around $2.6m from 1.5m downloads, according to Appmagic estimates. But it was cancelled in October 2022, with Supercell stating that the game “does not meet our ambitions for a Supercell game.”
Then, in January 2023, Supercell-backed studio Metacore announced it had acquired the game and would work on “delving into Everdale’s market-fit and expanding the game’s audience.” It did not confirm a global launch was imminent, though, adding “we can’t say for sure whether Everdale will ever become a live game project“.
