Supercell has completed its acquisition of Merge Mansion developer Metacore, which is now fully owned by the Finnish publisher.
Metacore announced the news in a LinkedIn post today, October 19, saying its game team has officially started as “Supercellians”.
Supercell – posting its own welcome message on LinkedIn – said the Merge Mansion team “has moved in”.
Merge Mansion will become part of Supercell’s game portfolio, with the team continuing to develop it with the aim of returning to its “chart-topping spot”.
Financial terms have not been disclosed, and the deal had been expected to close at the end of September.
Supercell is a long-term investor and partner to fellow Finnish firm Metacore. In January 2023, Metacore acquired failed Supercell soft launch game Everdale and attempted to rework and relaunch the game under its ownership, but killed the game in September 2024.
It then announced plans to buy the rest of Metacore in May, with CEO Ilkka Paananen saying he believes the game’s “best days are still ahead”.
Metacore has since cut 159 staff at its Helsinki HQ and closed its offices in Germany and Sweden.
Former Small Giant Games CEO Jose Saarniniemi joined as general manager of Merge Mansion in June.
Merge Mansion is estimated to have earned around $490m since its 2020 launch, according to AppMagic.
