Unity 7 is coming Q1 2027

Unity 7 enters early beta in December, with a full release targeted for Q1 2027.

Announcing the news at Unite Seoul, Unity said it was positioning Unity 7 around how developers, artists, producers and coding agents increasingly work together across the full development cycle.

It has also been designed to avoid the usual pain points of getting to know new software, with Unity stating there’ll be “no rebuilding, no new language to learn, nothing broken in the transition.”

Graphically, the update brings real-time global illumination through Surface Cache GI, with AI-assisted optimisation scaling the effect from high-end PCs to mobile devices.

Unity 7 also features “smarter growth and monetisation” systems, with native direct-to-consumer in-app purchases, no-code webshops and unified catalogues which all feed data back into Vector, the AI engine behind Unity Ads.

On the technical side, Unity 7 runs on a modernised CoreCLR-based core, with near-instant Play Mode, domain reloads that only touch changed code, and shader builds that Unity claims are up to 90% faster.

A new CLI and public API also open up production work beyond the Editor, letting artists and producers push builds and validate assets from their own tools, alongside a free MCP for connecting coding agents directly into Unity.

“Game development is changing faster than at any point in history,” said CEO Matt Bromberg. “The future belongs not to the biggest team, but to those who can use new technology to create something unique and find an audience. Unity 7 is the platform that meets this moment.”
