Zynga is shutting down arena shooter Star Wars: Hunters, having launched the title worldwide in June 2024.
The title is developed by Zynga-owned NaturalMotion, and was in development for several years and suffered multiple delays before finally launching last summer. The game was also released on Switch and Steam.
As we’ve reported previously, the game’s downloads and IAP revenue were very low right from launch onwards, and a couple of months after it went live there were reports of layoffs at developer NaturalMotion.
“After careful consideration, we want to let you know that the final content update for Star Wars: Hunters on all platforms will be on April 15th,” says a statement on the game’s website. “The game will remain playable until October 1st, 2025, when the game’s online servers will be shut down.”
“We understand this news may be disappointing and want to assure you that this decision was not made lightly,” the statement continues. “Your passion and dedication to the game and its community have meant the world to us, and we are committed to providing visibility and updates throughout the transition process.”
“It’s looking grim for Zynga’s Star Wars: Hunters,” we wrote in our top grossing games of 2024 report. “Hunters earned a paltry $2.9m last year, so it’s safe to say Hunters was not anywhere near even the top 1000 earners in 2024.”
