Niantic’s virtual pet game Peridot is to close.
All IAPs have been removed from the game as of today, and it’ll be pulled from app stores on May 14 ahead of the game’s servers shutting down on August 31.
Peridot was one of few projects not acquired by Scopely as part of the deal which saw the Savvy-owned publisher swoop in for Pokémon Go, Monster Hunter Now, Pikmin Bloom and more last year.
Appmagic estimates suggest it has earned Niantic just $2.9m in IAP revenue since launch, and racked up 1.9m downloads. 66% of IAP revenue and 57% of downloads came from the US.
A farewell blog from Niantic states that since Peridot arrived on mobile in 2023, the franchise expanded into mixed reality with a Hello, Dot spin-off on Meta Quest and Vision Pro, plus a Peridot Beyond app on Snap Spectacles. There’s also mention of a Project Jade title in the works related to the Peridot IP, but it’s not clear what that is.
The firm also reassured players that its other live title, Ingress, is not affected by the decision. Niantic added it is “exploring possibilities” for players who want to take their virtual pet onwards into another game, but have nothing to announce currently.
