Tencent’s big-brand MOBA Pokémon Unite is closing in March 2027

Pokémon Unite will shut down on March 23 2027 on both mobile and Nintendo Switch.

As spotted by One More Catch, The Pokémon Company announced the closure on the game’s official site. No reason was given for the shutdown, with the publisher instead offering its “sincerest gratitude” to players.

In-game currency sales were suspended on October 27, and new Unite Club memberships and automatic renewals have been paused. Players have until the service closes to use their outstanding benefits.

Pokémon Unite has generated an estimated $75m in gross revenue, according to AppMagic data, alongside 127.4m downloads. It’s been most successful in Japan, where 29% of all revenue is thought to have been generated, though Japan only accounts for around 5% of all global downloads. It’s mostly been downloaded in Brazil (14%), India (14%) and the US (10%).

The MOBA launched on Nintendo Switch in July 2021 and on mobile that September, and was developed by Tencent’s TiMi Studio Group. The Pokémon Company had already said it would end service in Belgium and the Netherlands in November 2025.

The Pokémon Company had previously stated that Pokémon Unite would no longer feature at future Pokémon Championships events, but the Aeos Crown 2027 Tokyo tournament will go ahead as planned, with qualifiers starting on December 5.
