Take-Two hails hit Match Factory as mobile earnings beat PC and console combined

Mobile once again accounted for over half of Take-Two’s bookings in the company’s Q4 and full year financial results, which were released last night.

The results were rather overshadowed by the confirmation that GTA VI would be arriving in “Fall 2025” – and Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick’s bizarre claim that it had not actually closed Roll7 and Intercept, despite widespread reports to the contrary.

Mobile net bookings during Take-Two’s FY24 were $2.76bn, up on FY23’s total of $2.5bn. Mobile is now 52% of the company’s net bookings, and its direct-to-consumer efforts are “progressing well”, it said. It also continues to have “active discussions” around making mobile editions of its big PC and console franchises.

In an update on how the integration of Zynga is going, Take-Two said it had “significantly exceeded” its cost synergy target of $100m, within two years of the acquisition closing.

CEO Strauss Zelnick talked through a recovery of sorts for the mobile business in the earnings call that followed. “It is gratifying that after a down year and then a slightly down year, we’re heading into a flatter up year for the industry,” he said.

Match Factory “is performing really, really well,” he added. “We said that we were spending a lot in UA in the fourth quarter. We did, and that’s turned out to be productive spending.” The company also said the match 3D game had established itself as a top 20 grossing game on the U.S. Apple App Store and has gained “millions of new users” with Google Play launch.

Toon Blast saw a sequential 20% rise in IAPs this quarter thanks to a ‘Dragon’s Treasure’ competition and other features.

Moving onto Rollic, the company (re)confirmed that it would be releasing a “mass-market” Barbie game this calendar year, and that “blended monetization” – or hybridcasual – efforts are reaping rewards in Twisted Tangle and Screw Jam, which have both entered the top 100 grossing games in the US App Store.

From December 2023: ‘Zynga on taking Take-Two IP mobile, ramping up new releases and puzzle’s “less red” ocean‘.

It also confirmed that Game of Thrones: Legends would launch this fiscal year, meaning by the end of March 2025.

Overall, Take-Two posted Q4 net bookings of $1.35bn, above its guidance range of $1.27-1.32bn, but down 3% YoY. Its full year 2024 results showed a total net bookings up 1% YoY to $5.33bn.

Elsewhere in the financial result,s Take-Two claimed that Zynga runs 15 of the top 200 grossing mobile games in the US, and that its hypercasual portfolio boasts 3.5bn downloads combined. Within that, Hair Challenge has over 260m installs, with Tangle Master 3D on 187m, High Heels at 162m and Fill the Fridge over 129m.

Development staff headcount is now at 9,639, it said, and it has 10 mobile games currently scheduled for worldwide launch.
