Critically-acclaimed interactive film Immortality has just arrived on Netflix.
Immortality is a real game of the year contender – it currently has a Metacritic of 88 and has received near-universal acclaim from critics, with top scores from The Guardian, Edge and NME. It has also been called a “masterpiece” by Vice.
It’s a murder mystery in which you gradually discover what happened to missing actress Marissa Marcel by matching shots between three unreleased films. It’s the latest title helmed by Sam Barlow, creator of Her Story and Telling Lies.
Immortality was originally announced for release through Netflix in July, then August, then September before arriving yesterday.
Immortality joins several other well regarded Netflix titles released in the last few months. The new game from Downwell creator Ojiro Fumoto, Poinpy, was released in June, and Monument Valley maker Ustwo Games released its new title Desta: The Memories Between exclusively on Netflix in September.
Netflix also has a new Reigns game and a Narcos title coming this month and it continues to build its studio portfolio too.
It recently set up a new studio in Helsinki led by former Zynga and EA veteran Marko Lastikka, a new US outfit led by former Overwatch lead Chacko Sonny and most recently acquired Spry Fox, the puzzle game maker behind Triple Town and Alphabear. It also previously acquired Oxenfree maker Night School, Next Games and Boss Fight Entertainment and has been hiring talent from all across the industry in the last year.
