Supercell’s monster hunting game Mo.co is going ‘back into beta’

Supercell’s Mo.co is heading ‘back into beta’ while its dev team rethinks how to proceed with the underperforming monster hunting game.

“Mo.co is not performing as well as we hoped…it will need big changes to achieve mass appeal,” said Supercell on its Mo.co blog. “The best way to keep iterating and testing out new features is to take a step back and return to a beta development stage.”

This means Mo.co will run “on low maintenance,” says Supercell, and no further weapons or premium tracks will be released. Elite merch and content “will be recycled from previous seasons.”

“Our goal is to release updates more frequently and reduce the wait between them,” the team explained, adding there was no date planned for the next update, but it expected to roll one out before the end of 2026.

“As the saying goes, sometimes you need to take one step back before taking two steps forward,” the team added.

The game’s community manager, Joao, revealed on X that as a result of the change, they will be redeployed to a different role within the company as the game no longer requires a full-time community manager.

Appmagic estimates suggest that Mo.co, which was released via an invite-only game in March 2025, has earned $7m in IAP revenue from 9.2m downloads to date. Top markets by revenue are the US (27% of lifetime IAPs), Japan (12%), Germany (7%), France (6%) and South Korea (5%).

Mo.co launched worldwide via an invite-only rollout, following limited beta tests that began in October 2023. It later opened up to all players, becoming fully playable worldwide without an invite in July 2025.

Since then, Supercell has admitted the game is underperforming and rebooted it back in May. In August, Supercell said it would be rebooting the game again, and floated the possibility of killing the title. It insisted that closing the game entirely “remains an unlikely scenario”.
