“All-new mobile Warcraft” coming in 2022; COD Mobile and King rake in $1bn each

Activision Blizzard has promised “all-new mobile Warcraft content” in 2022 as part of its latest financial results, suggesting a new mobile spin-off of its classic MMORPG is incoming.

The nod to mobile Warcraft was part of an update which also confirmed some neat milestones for COD Mobile and King.

Its popularity in China drove COD Mobile to “worldwide consumer spending … exceeding $1 billion” in 2021.

King’s portfolio also “passed the $1 billion annual operating income milestone in 2021,” said ABK, with in-game net bookings up 14% year-over-year to a new fourth quarter record.

This was mostly due to 20% year-over-year growth for its Candy Crush franchise, which the company said was the top-grossing game series in the U.S. app stores for the 18th consecutive quarter, according to App Annie data.

More frequent updates and live events pushed hours played across the King portfolio up year-over-year in the fourth quarter too, helping King’s paying customers grow by “a double-digit percentage” versus the year ago quarter. King’s advertising business grew rapidly too, up 60% year-over-year for all of 2021.
